Colonel Robert Overtons Regiment of Foote
Today's regiment is made up of people from all over the country and all walks of life. We have many entire families as members, and everyone both young and old plays an active and enjoyable part in our re-enactment events. It is a year round source of comradeship, combining a unique blend of history, excitement and sheer good fun! We really are a society of friends.
So what is it that we do?

We are one of four regiments who make up The Fairfax Battalia of the Roundhead Association within The English Civil War Society. Together, we take pride in trying as accurately as possible, to recreate and portray the 17th century aspects of military, civilian and domestic life during the troubled times of The English Civil War.

Who do we portray?

Within the regiment you will find the likes of Musketeers, Pikemen, Musicians, Officers, Sergeant at Arms, a Surgeon and a Preacher. They train, drill, fight and carry out their duties in true 17th century style. But this was not just a time of the military, but also of the ordinary people of England. So not only do we re-enact the military aspects of the civil wars, but also the daily life and work of the civilians, women and children in all levels of 17th century society.

Many solders, where possible, took their families and some belongings with them, as part of the Baggage Trayne.  Within a military encampment or base, the Trayne would supply skilled workers such as blacksmiths, wood carvers, laundry and leather workers, gunsmiths, cooks and seamstresses. All to help equip, mend, feed and clothe an army on the move.

Come and see us!

This is some of the world that the skilled and knowledgeable members of Overtons help bring to life. To walk into one of our events, is like walking into the past.

So, if you have the urge to get out of the house one weekend, and to do or see something exciting and interesting: then come and visit us at one of our English Civil War re-enactments. Perhaps you would even like to come and join us and be a part of it all, even if it's just for one day. Let the excitement and historical atmosphere transport you away!
